However, there isn\u2019t much consensus about what constitutes Central Kentucky, so for our purposes, we\u2019ll consider it to be the Bluegrass Region and part of the Mississippian Plateau.<\/p>    <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This includes the Outer Bluegrass, the Inner Bluegrass, the Knobs, and the Eastern Mississippian Plateau. Most of the Bluegrass Region is located in USDA <strong>zone 6b<\/strong>, where extreme minimum temperatures range from <strong>-5 to 0 F<\/strong>.<\/p>    <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here\u2019s what you need to know about the sub-regions in the Bluegrass Region:<\/p>    <ul class=\"wp-block-list\"> <li><strong>Inner Bluegrass:<\/strong> The heart of the Bluegrass Region. Its upper half falls within <strong>zone 6b<\/strong>, while the lower half is in <strong>zone 7a<\/strong>. For instance, the state capital, <strong>Frankfort<\/strong>, is in <strong>zone 6b<\/strong>, whereas Fayette County, home to <strong>Lexington<\/strong>, is in <strong>zone 7a<\/strong>.<\/li> <\/ul>    <ul class=\"wp-block-list\"> <li><strong>Outer Bluegrass:<\/strong> Like the Inner Bluegrass, this region has its upper half in <strong>zone 6b<\/strong> and its lower half in <strong>zone 7a<\/strong>. Important cities in <strong>zone 6b<\/strong> include <strong><strong>Covington<\/strong>, Florence, and Independence<\/strong>. <strong>Louisville<\/strong> falls within <strong>zone 7a<\/strong>.<\/li> <\/ul>    <ul class=\"wp-block-list\"> <li><strong>The Knobs:<\/strong> This region is a thin strip bordering the Outer Bluegrass, and is mostly in <strong>zone 7a<\/strong>. However, the northern counties, such as <strong>Lewis, Fleming, and Bath<\/strong>, fall within <strong>zone 6b<\/strong>.<\/li> <\/ul>    <h3 id=\"mississippian-plateau\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mississippian Plateau<\/h3>    <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Mississippian Plateau, also known as the Pennyroyal, is located in the south central region of Kentucky, encircling the Shawnee Hills. This region primarily falls within USDA hardiness zone 7a, which means it experiences minimum temperatures ranging from 0 to 5 F. This includes cities like <strong>Somerset and Elizabethtown<\/strong>.<\/p>    <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, a few counties, such as Meade and Allen, have areas that fall into different zones. It comprises Lexington, Louisville, and Northern Kentucky. Here\u2019s a summary of the planting zones in this area:<\/p>    <ul class=\"wp-block-list\"> <li><strong>Louisville<\/strong>, the biggest city in Kentucky, located in Jefferson County, is in <strong>zone 7a<\/strong>.<\/li> <\/ul>    <ul class=\"wp-block-list\"> <li><strong>Lexington<\/strong> is located in <strong>zone 7a<\/strong> as well, but parts of Fayette County fall into <strong>zone 6b<\/strong>.<\/li> <\/ul>    <ul class=\"wp-block-list\"> <li><strong>Northern Kentucky<\/strong> is in <strong>zone 6b<\/strong>, including cities like Covington and Newport.<\/li> <\/ul>    <h2 id=\"when-to-call-a-pro\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">When to call a pro<\/h2>    <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just knowing the planting zones is not enough to have the perfect garden, but it\u2019s a start.
