Temperature, moisture, and microbial activity in the soil slowly break down the coatings and release the nutrients little by little.<\/p>    <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That is also the downside of slow-release fertilizers: how long they last and how consistently they fertilize depends on those factors.
