San Diego gardening

There is a lot to like about San Diego, California. There are beaches, and the weather is mild. It is the second-largest city in California and the eighth largest in the United States, despite being one of the most expensive to live in. Beaches and good weather are all very well, but what is it that makes this city so popular?

There is something fascinating about the way the city came out of nothing and succeeded so fantastically. San Diego was a failing Mexican town for a time with a tiny population. The Americans were gaining interest in it because of the possibilities for a port city. During the Mexican War, battles and skirmishes took place in the surrounding areas.

When the Mexicans surrendered, the area was ceded to the United States. In 1850, California became a state, and San Diego became a city. It was failing almost from the start, and it seemed like no one would be able to get it off the ground. Some help came when it was established as part of a vital mail route. However, San Diego needed something more.

The original town of San Diego was not very close to the bay, and the city began a move. In time, the economic and political center shifted to the bay area. It was still not a particularly important town until the railroad came. The railroad brought economic support and the population to firmly establish San Diego as a significant part of the country. From there, it was all uphill progress.

San Diego hosted two world fairs, which jump-started its career as a major tourist attraction. The city was home to Fort Rosecrans. It was also essential to the Navy, and it included a naval base in Naval Training Center. In addition, it became necessary to aviation and even called itself "The Air Capital of the West." World War II brought a great deal of population growth, and following the war, business poured in.

San Diego became a center for the tuna industry. This, however, has not continued into today. Now, San Diego continues to be an important part of the defense industry as well as research, tourism, and trade, but it has also shown that it can appreciate more peaceful and enjoyable activities as well.

That may be one of the major attractions to San Diego. Despite the fact it is a big city, San Diego has not lost the relaxed way of living that its population has enjoyed. This is shown a number of ways. San Diego is still really a beach town. People love relaxing at the beach and slowing down from the busy, difficult workaday life. Another aspect of San Diego relaxation is gardening.

Many plants are a well-loved part of gardens in San Diego. Whether your special hobby is gardening, or you just enjoy looking at beautiful plants, you may like to know about some plants that will be an ornament to your garden in San Diego.

One plant that is somewhat tropical in appearance and fits in well with the San Diego environment is the canna lily. Canna lilies are perennial plants with beautiful flowers of various bright colors. Their leaves can be red or purple or plain green. As long as the weather is not too hot, canna lilies do well in full sun. Their ornamental and particularly useful and should be watered regularly. They also require fertilizer. They can grow quite large, but they do not need much pruning. You can propagate the plant by division, or you can grow from seed. They are very hardy plants and are sometimes coupled with daylilies for a beautiful color splash.

Daylilies are another particular type of plant. These plants are popular because they are both easy to grow and hardy. They have few pests and beautiful blooms. Daylilies are perennials that can do well with sun or with shade. They require very little maintenance and may also reduce the weed population. The blossoms are brightly-colored and can range from orange to yellow to red to pink to cream. It looks almost like a thick grass with a spray of flowers, and the flowers can be small or can be five inches in diameter.

This is a real attention-getter and a perfect addition to any garden!

Scarlet bugler is another garden favorite. You can probably guess what color the blossoms are! It is a perennial that may grow anywhere from two to four feet in height. It is a major attraction to hummingbirds for your garden. It has a low water requirement and stands low temperatures well. In fact, it may only need watering two times a month. It is no wonder that it is a popular garden plant.

Pittosporum represents a wide range of species made up of trees and shrubs. They will grow up to 30 feet tall if allowed. Pittosporum has small white blossoms that smell like orange blossoms. This has earned it the name "mock orange," but it is also well-loved as a kind of thick hedge for your garden and home. It requires more water than the others, but it is well worth the payoff if you want a tree or shrub for your garden.

All of these plants require care, and many people in San Diego would rather be at the beach than working in a garden. You may even be the type of person who loves to look at a garden but hasn't the faintest idea where to start or how to keep it looking fresh.

If so, we can help. At Lawn Love, we want to give you the garden you desire. We offer professional services for trimming, planting, weeding and more. You will never have to do those hated jobs again! Also, rather than having to bring someone out to get a quote, you can get a quote for our services in minutes. Schedule today so you can spend your time at the beach with no worries.
