Fort Lauderdale gardening services

The city of Fort Lauderdale saw more than 13 million visitors in 2013, according to the City of Fort Lauderdale website. We bet you already know the reason- sunny weather, cool ocean breezes, and plenty of sight-seeing activities. The city of Fort Lauderdale enjoys an average temperature of about 75 degrees, which of course means that many people are outside and enjoying all that the city has to offer.

The History of Fort Lauderdale

Not many people realize that the history of the city began about 4,000 years ago due to the settlement of the aboriginal natives and then the Tequesta Indians. The land then changed hands many times. Spain, the United States, England, and the Confederate States of America were all part of the history. The area of the city was called the "New River Settlement" for many years. In 1893 the very first U.S. stockade was built. It was named Fort Lauderdale and became a site where fighting occurred during the Second Seminole War. In 1842 the fort was abandoned.

However, this area still wasn't very developed until the 20th century when the Florida land boom of the 1920s began. The Great Depression, which occurred in the 1930s, caused a lot of economic dislocation. Fort Lauderdale then became a significant base for the United States Navy after World War II began. The Naval Air Station used the base to train their pilots, fire control operators, and radar operators. Many service members came back to the area when the war ended, spurring a population explosion that overtook the 1920s boom.

Today, the city is famous for its boats and beaches. It is a major yachting center and is one of the country's largest tourist destinations.

Fort Lauderdale was mostly considered a college destination for spring-breakers up until 1986 when the area began a massive transformation into a year-round retreat for families. The typical spring break months still see thousands of college students, but now visitors include couples, international travelers, families, and even businessmen traveling for work.

Greater Fort Lauderdale is well-known for its festivals, art districts, and a diverse arts and culture scene. The city also offers gambling options for residents and visitors. Casinos and pari-mutuel betting venues can be found throughout the city. Interested adults can check out multiple sites, such as the Isle Casino Racing Pompano Park and the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Hollywood. Many of the casinos offer slot machines, traditional table games, horse racing, and simulcasting.

Climate and Grass Types of Fort Lauderdale

One of the perks of Fort Lauderdale is the fact that the water temperature of the Atlantic Ocean typically stays between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit all year. And with the average temperature of 75.5 degrees Fahrenheit, it is easy to see why so many people visit and live in the city. Since the weather is so warm throughout the year, homeowners and business owners must make sure that they are taking care of their property on at least a weekly basis.

Several grass types will grow well within the Fort Lauderdale area. Check out the following types:

St. Augustine grass

This is one of the best types of grass for the warm climate. St. Augustine grows quickly and easily in warm areas. It also grows well in full shade but does not tolerate cold very well.

Bermuda grass

This type of grass is great for Florida weather because it has deep roots that allow the blades to stand up well to drought and weeds. It is also resistant to foot traffic, making it a popular choice for football fields, stadiums, and golf courses. It can be highly invasive, however. Homeowners who choose to plant Bermuda grass should watch that it doesn't start growing in their flower beds and gardens.

Buffalo grass

Buffalo grass is another type of grass that is great for the hot Florida climate, as it has a very high tolerance for the higher temperatures of the state. This type of grass can also grow in many different kinds of soil. It is not suitable for areas that see a lot of foot traffic.
