Tampa Seasons and When to Visit
Tampa, like the rest of the state, does not have fall and winter seasons. However, the locals consider it to have three namely: tourist, hurricane, and holiday. The first one begins in January until May, while hurricane season would start from June to November. Finally, the holiday period is from November to December, just like with other parts of the world.
The start of the year until May is generally when there are lots of tourists in the city. The hotel rates are high, but you can enjoy several events because this period is with the most number of festivities scheduled. It does not mean you should not visit Tampa after May. Although there are potential hurricanes and rainy weather, the following months are when the hotels are much cheaper.
Meanwhile, if you want to see colorful parades, brightly lit palm trees, and slightly cooler temperature, you should certainly see what the city has to offer in the last two months of the year.
Tampa's Pleasant but Problematic Weather for Homeowners
Tampa is mostly sunny, which gives locals and visitors plenty of time to go to the beach. However, it can be an issue for homeowners who want to maintain their picture-perfect lawn. If you have a yard, we are sure you can relate to specific problems that the hot weather causes, including weeds.
These weeds grow just about anywhere, such as in your well-manicured lawn. These opportunistic plants will germinate when they get a chance. You should not be surprised to see many weeds in your yard. There are typically hundreds of weed seeds there waiting for the ideal conditions for them to germinate.
Inspect your lawn, and you will find weed growing in these areas:
Hard and solid soil
Loose soil that is often wet
Shady places
Bright locations that receive plenty of sunlight
Sections of the lawn where the grass is thinner than the other parts mainly because of disease or insects
Areas that often receive high foot traffic
It is time to control the weeds that are destroying your lawn's appearance. Here are some of the best defenses against this problem:
Mow
While it is not common, some homeowners in Tampa would plant cool-season grasses. If you have this type on your lawn, it is best to mow high. Let the grass grow from between three to four inches since long grass blades tend to shade the ground under them. It results in preventing the sun from heating the weed seeds, which stops them from propagating.
Meanwhile, Tampa locals would usually have warm-season grasses. In this case, they should be mowed at 1.5 to two inches, except if you have St. Augustine grass. Having these grass types is quite advantageous because they grow densely. They efficiently shield the sun so the heat does not reach the seeds.
Mowing may look easy, but it requires experience. Instead of doing the mowing on your own, you should call Lawn Love so we can take care of your weed and other lawn problems.
Hand-pulling
If you only have very few weeds to deal with, pulling them out with your hands can be an easy and free solution. Annual weeds, such as chickweed and crabgrass, typically have shallow roots so you can eliminate them from your lawn with hand-pulling. It helps if you pull the weeds when they are still young, and the soil is damp.
Be careful with this method though. Some weeds are better left to the hands of the professionals here at Lawn Love. Perennial weeds, such as thistles and dandelions, have extensive and deep roots. When pulled and small pieces of the root are left, the weed will still regrow.
Feeding
The best medicine for the weed problem is proper lawn care, which you can only get from the pros at Lawn Love. You can easily have a stressed-out lawn, and it can be the cause of the weed taking over it. The solution is to feed your garden regularly with a good fertilizer at least every eight weeks (ideally, six) during the growing season.
The fertilizer will help the grass stay lush and thick while keeping it harsh for the weeds. When the grass is thick, there is little space for the unwanted plants to grow. You can also boost your lawn's health and appearance when you aerate.
Water
With Tampa's warm weather, you should be prepared to water your lawn deeply. It does not have to be several times a day. Watering once a day early in the morning allows the water to penetrate the roots before it gets too hot and the water evaporates. If you water shallowly yet frequently, it will only encourage the roots to grow thinly and near the surface. Your grass will suffer, particularly during the hot summers in Tampa when it will have a low tolerance for drought.
