Louisville gardening services

Did you know that Louisville is the largest city found in the Commonwealth of Kentucky? The city is known for being the home of Muhammad Ali, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and the Kentucky Derby. Whether you are living in Louisville or just passing through, there will always be plenty of things to do and see.

History of Louisville

Louisville is one of the oldest cities in the United States, George Rogers Clark founded it in 1778. Many local landmarks were named after him. Before that, the Virginia General Assembly had approved the town charter of the area. The area was named for King Louis XVI of France. King Louis had soldiers who had been aiding Americans during the Revolutionary War. Early residents of the city stayed in forts to escape the Indian raids, but they began to move away by the late 1780s.

William Clark and Meriwether Lewis, two famous explorers, began to organize their American expedition in 1803 in a town opposite of Louisville. This town is known as Clarksville.

The settlement began to grow as a portage site. The Louisville and Nashville Railroad became a significant landmark in the city, which then grew to become a 6,000-mile railroad system that stretched across 13 states. New growth in the city was influenced by the many riverboats that were required to be unloaded and taken downriver before they reached the falls. The population of Louisville reached 7,000 by 1828, causing Louisville to become an incorporated city.

Louisville became a large shipping port and was an area in which many slaves worked in associated trades. However, it also became a point of escape for slaves who wanted to move on to the north, since Indiana was a free state at the time.
