Aeration in Pittsburgh, PA

None other than George Washington himself was one of the first to see the potential of what would become Pittsburgh. At the age of just 21, he was on a diplomatic mission to try and convince the French military presence to leave the area. His journey took him to the Forks of the Ohio, which is where the Monongahela and Allegheny Rivers meet. He would report back to his commanders that this would be a great place to build a fort.

Apparently, the French also saw the potential, because they chose that site to build Fort Duquesne. Soon the French and Indian War would erupt, in which Washington would play an active role. The French would eventually be forced to burn Fort Duquesne to the ground to prevent it from falling into enemy hands. It was replaced by the British Fort Pitt which George Washington would later visit.

George Washington would visit the area a total of seven times. He would be close by to become the only sitting president to lead troops into battle as he dealt with the Whisky Rebellion. Citizens of Pittsburgh were active in this struggle to protest against lack of courts and high taxes, showing that these citizens have been willing to stand up for fair play throughout history.

Even before that, the fighting spirit of this fledgling settlement was evident. In 1760, the first significant settlement of European residents began to sprout up around Fort Pitt. However, in 1763, Native Americans attacked in a conflict known as the siege of Fort Pitt. The residents of what would become Pittsburgh destroyed their own homes and took shelter in the fort, surviving the attack.

Pittsburgh would become a center of industry, helping to equip US forces during the War of 1812 and the Civil War. It produced more steel, military vehicles and supplies for World War II than any other city, which earned it the title of "The Arsenal of Democracy." That was a proud moment in the history of the city, as it became a significant player in the fight to free the entire globe from the yoke of oppression.

All of that history has made the city a center of culture, with many notable landmarks. For instance, viewers can visit a plaque that explains how Pittsburgh is the site of the first-ever professional football game. It was played in 1892, and William "Pudge" Heffelfinger scored the winning touchdown, making $500 for his trouble. If you are a fan of professional football, now you know who to thank for starting it all.

Among the famous offspring of Pittsburgh is legendary artist Andy Warhol. The city honors this icon of pop-culture with the Andy Warhol Museum, containing the most extensive collection of his works in the world. Many may remember his images of multi-colored soup cans, as well as colorful prints featuring the image of Marilyn Monroe. He was more than just a visual artist, as his body of work includes works in film, music, and other mediums.

Andrew Carnegie established a highly successful steel company in Pittsburgh. He amassed a great fortune and became a philanthropist by using much of his acquired wealth for the public good. Those contributions can still be felt in the city today. The Carnegie Museum of Art holds an impressive collection which houses artifacts from ancient Egypt, Greece, Africa, and China, among other places. It also has paintings from such notable artists as Claude Monet and Vincent Van Gogh. The Carnegie Museum of Natural History houses a real T-Rex skeleton, among many other natural wonders.

With so much to be proud of in terms of the history and unique landmarks of Pittsburgh, it's not surprising that Pittsburgh citizens take special effort to make the appearance of their homes reflect that pride. It's for that reason that so many get the best professionals to take care of their lawns and accentuate nature's beauty to its fullest potential.

One of the ways we help achieve this goal is by providing lawn aeration services. This means we cover the surface of your lawn with small holes so that the soil doesn't get packed too tightly together. When the soil is too compressed, it is the result of what is called soil compaction.

Soil compaction keeps your lawn from growing to its fullest potential because there isn't enough room between the bits of soil for gasses to facilitate the biological processes that plants need to grow most healthily. Also, when the soil becomes too dense, it becomes harder for the grass on your lawn to set down the firm root system that it needs to achieve maximum greenness.

As proud Pittsburgh residents, Lawn Love providers know when the local growing season arrives. That is the best time to aerate a lawn. By taking this step, they can help your lawn resist the harmful soil compaction that can result from foot traffic, drainage issues, and the weight of vehicles.

They can also give you tips on how to care for your lawn after aeration. Compost, for instance, can help to fill in the aeration holes. Extra watering after aeration is also a good idea.

The people of Pittsburgh love their city, from the legacy of George Washington in its beginnings to the contributions its industry has made to helping to keep our country and the world safe in times of war. Pittsburgh folks show that love by making their lawns the best they can be, and a contribution to all the beauty the city already has inside and out. We can help with that. Together, we will make your yard a mirror to reflect Pittsburgh pride for all to see. Contact Lawn Love today.
