Arlington mowing services

For those who reside in the beautiful and bustling city of Arlington, VA, we know there are a ton of different sights and activities to take in and enjoy. No matter what season it is, there is always something going on in Arlington. This article will discuss some of the history and landmarks that we can experience.

The History of Arlington

The area known as Arlington was originally part of the Virginia Colony. A man named Thomas Fairfax was first given this land as his property. It wasn't until a man named Henry Bennet, an Earl of Arlington, moved there and created a plantation that the name 'Arlington' first emerged. His home, known as Arlington House, was eventually given to the grandson of First Lady Martha Washingon. Once he passed, the house eventually made its way to the hands of Mary Anna Custis Lee who was the wife of Robert E. Lee. During the American Civil War, this property would eventually be turned into the famous Arlington National Cemetery.

It wasn't until after the Civil War that Arlington became a city of its own. Arlington County, for which it is known now, wasn't made official until 1920. Today, Arlington boasts many beautiful sights and landmarks for its residents and visitors to see.

Arlington National Cemetery

Perhaps one of Arlington's most well-known landmarks is its National Cemetery. First opened during the Civil War, the 624-acre cemetery houses the dead who served in the military. Some of its occupants have even been moved here after being moved from their burial elsewhere. It joined the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

There are a few non-soldiers who are buried at Arlington, too. There is a section in the cemetery for nurses who served in a war. There's also a section for military chaplains of varying faiths. Finally, there is also a section devoted to a few free slaves who had died during the Civil War and were considered to be "contraband."

The cemetery also has a large amphitheater with the famous Tomb of the Unknowns attached to it. This tomb represents soldiers who died in a war and could not be identified. It also stands for all those who could not be found on the battlefield or were unable to be recovered.

Thousands of people make their trip to Arlington National Cemetery each year. It's most busy during Memorial Weekend. To ensure that you can still attend some of the moving ceremonies that the cemetery offers, you should leave your day's chores in the hands of professionals. Your lawn care, for example, should be done by Lawn Love. We offer lawn care professionals that can happily take care of your lawn and allow you free time to visit the Cemetery and pay your respects to those who sacrificed everything for their country.

The Pentagon

Due to Arlington's proximity to Washington D.C., there are many government buildings located in Arlington. One of those buildings is the famous Pentagon, which houses the Department of Defense. Construction on The Pentagon began in 1941 and was completed in 1943. The Pentagon is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Part of the Pentagon was destroyed during the 9/11 terrorist attack. While the occupants of the plane were able to fight against their hijackers, they were unable to keep it from crashing into the Pentagon entirely. As a result, the western wall of the Pentagon was destroyed. One hundred twenty-five occupants of the Pentagon were killed along with the 59 plane occupants and their hijackers.

Understandably, visitors aren't allowed to see everything in the Pentagon, but there are tours and halls that they can enjoy. One of those Halls is the Hall of Heroes. This was opened in 1968 and showcases those who have received the Medal of Honor for their service.

Many people love to visit the seat of Defense for the United States. You can do so as well. Leave your lawn care chores in the hands of those who can get it done quickly and with professional skill. Lawn Love will take care of your lawn so you can enjoy your time in Arlington.

Mount Vernon Trail

For those who love doing something outdoors, then you need to hit the Mount Vernon Trail. Not only does it offer breathtaking views of nature but you can also glimpse a few of the famous DC monuments. This trail is about 18 miles long, but you can easily walk, run, or even bike it. It even connects with other trails for those who don't want to stop hiking.

It is a busier trail, too, as its popular with both residents and visitors. As such, you can expect to enjoy the views with some new hiking friends. There are also picnic areas along the way as well as restrooms and water fountains. That makes this trail an excellent option for both beginners and veterans of hiking.

Free Up Your Time

Arlington offers up a staggering amount of different places to see and activities to do. For those who love history or want to understand their country a bit better, you can easily spend your time visiting the local monuments for an entire weekend. The proximity to Washington D.C. also offers up weekend upon weekend's worth of activities.

But you can't enjoy those activities until the work at home is finished. Instead of mowing and taking care of your lawn yourself, you should call Lawn Love. We understand that every property is unique. As such, we'll send a professional to you that will give your lawn the custom care that it needs. With a great-looking lawn that is sure to be envied by your neighbors, you can enjoy the delights of Arlington and still come home to a well-groomed lawn. Try Lawn Love today.
