What Our Customers Are Saying

Should I water my lawn today?

It's way too cold to water your lawn today! Once the temperatures have risen, keep an eye on your grass. If it looks yellow or droopy, it's time to turn on the sprinklers and make it rain.

Mowing Service in Milwaukee, WI

A lakefront community on the shores of Lake Michigan with a strong sense of history and a real appreciation for the values brought there by many varieties of immigrants, Milwaukee, Wisconsin maintains a real sense of pride in its community. An integral part of this is found in keeping up homes and properties, so they always look sharp and well-cared for. Taking great care of lawns is an essential part of keeping any community looking its best.

A Diverse History

Milwaukee has a rich history beginning with the many types of American Indians that inhabited the area in the 1400s. Soon afterward, French explorers, fur traders, and Europeans began settling in the area, bringing with them many fascinating cultural traditions and nuances. From this influx of settlers, the city population grew to about 20,000 residents.

The city quickly became divided into three main areas, Juneau which was east of the Milwaukee River, Byron Kilbourne's area across from Juneau, and Walker's Point, which was across the Menominee River from the other two areas. The city was incorporated into just one city in 1846. During these times, Milwaukee closely rivaled nearby Chicago in size, growth potential, and wealth. German immigrants came between 1846 and 1854, bringing with them skills in machinery, metalworking, foundry, and brewery work.

A horrendous fire in 1862 quickly destroyed a 16-block area near the Irish Third Ward. Soon after, more immigrants came from Ireland, Poland, and Italy. Today, you'll find yearly festivals honoring all of these unique heritages which blended to create the city. On the world-famous lakefront Summerfest Grounds, you'll find a huge yearly summertime music festival along with a variety of specific heritage festivals that draw thousands of visitors to the area.

Lawns in Milwaukee Must be Hardy

Due to the sometimes harsh winters, lawns grown in Milwaukee and throughout the Midwest need to be hardy enough to withstand extremely low temperatures and freezing winds, while they stay green and beautiful all spring and summer. The most popular types of lawns grown in the area are Kentucky Bluegrass varieties, along with Perennial Ryegrass varieties. These grasses traditionally thrive in the spring and summer months and go dormant during cold winter months.

Milwaukee and its surrounding suburbs are known for well-manicured lawns and well-maintained yards and gardens. It's all part of the work ethic brought to the area by a large variety of immigrants that has helped create attractive surroundings and keeps residents wanting to take good care of homes and yards.

Famous Milwaukee Places

Milwaukee's most famous places like Milwaukee Brewers stadium, aptly named Miller Park, the Milwaukee County Zoo, State Fair Park, and the permanent lakefront Summerfest grounds all have brilliantly green, well-care for and nicely manicured lawns. Due to the high volume of residents and visitors who use these parks and attractions, lawns need to withstand high traffic. In the case of the Milwaukee County Zoo, parts of the lawn may also be eaten by animals.

The most common types of sod and seed used in these places are comprised of hardy Kentucky Bluegrass and Perennial Ryegrass. At Miller Park, the sod measures about 3/4 of an inch, with about 12 inches of sand from Waupaca, sourced locally in Wisconsin. The sandy soil allows for superior drainage and keeps water close to grassroots, allowing it to flourish. In a sports stadium, it's essential to have a green, lush and healthy lawn. Summerfest grounds and State Fair Park experience high volumes of traffic and must be able to withstand everything, including changeable weather, and still remain healthy.

Famous Landmarks in Milwaukee

One of the most noticeable features of Milwaukee's Lake Michigan lakefront is the uniquely created and custom-built Milwaukee Art Museum. An artist named Santiago Calatrava created a wing of this museum. This unique wing is fashioned in the shape of a bird's wing and moves, acting as a sunscreen, in the way that a bird's wings would move. This wing-shaped creation is known as a "Brise Soleil."

Other famous landmarks are found on the walkway along the Milwaukee River. Extending about three miles along both sides of the river, this unique River Walk concept takes walkers along the historic Third Ward and past points of interest like shops, craft brewpubs and 20 unique sculptures. Sculptures include the Bronze Fonz, based on a character made famous by the television show Laverne and Shirley, and a whimsical sculpture of a duck named Gertie.

Continuing along Milwaukee's historic Third Ward, walkers go past art galleries, boutique shopping and restaurants with outdoor patio areas. The area is also home to the historic Milwaukee Public Market, a place to pick up Wisconsin and Milwaukee clothing and souvenirs, and Wisconsin cheese. A bit farther along the pathway, you'll get to the gates of Summerfest Park, also known as Henry W. Maier Festival Park.

Residents and Visitors Enjoy the Milwaukee Lakefront

Milwaukee's famous lakefront offers a variety of activities ranging from sailing to windsurfing, kite surfing, dining in ethnic restaurants with lake views, tours of the Lakefront Brewery, and the ability to enjoy cultural festivals held in the summertime on the Summerfest grounds. The grounds are beautifully maintained by the city, and the grass is green, lush, and consistently well-kept for everyone's enjoyment.

Many residents and Milwaukee visitors enjoy lakefront walking tours taking them past several historic and artistic attractions. A bright orange sculpture draws the eye. It's crafted from steel and is known by residents as "The Sunburst," while its official title is "The Calling" and it was created by an artist named Mark di Suvero. It's located at Wisconsin Avenue and Mason Street.

Keeping Lawns Beautiful is Challenging

Keeping lawns beautiful in this historic and beautiful part of the Midwest can be challenging. It's a challenge that residents accept and embrace. Lawns are well-loved here and kept fertilized, trimmed, and hedges are properly maintained for maximum enjoyment. Outdoor time to be enjoyed is limited in this part of the country, so people know they need to take advantage of nice weather while it's there. Contact us today!
