Gainesville has so much to offer – one of the nation’s leading universities, a football team rich in tradition and titles, and some of the prettiest scenery in Florida. If you’re fortunate enough to live in Gator Country, you’ll want a great yard that blends with its surroundings.
Achieving that is not easy with Gainesville’s tricky climate. Situated on the cusp of North and Central Florida, we get searing summer heat but also un-Florida-like winter cold, and our soil is richer than the sandy soil found in southern reaches and coastal Florida.
Our Lawn Love pros know Gainesville and understand the unique challenges of building and maintaining special lawns.
A pristine lawn is just one element in a terrific yard, so Lawn Love offers a comprehensive range of services, including:

To achieve a beautiful lawn, you must know your grass type because each requires slightly different care. Warm-season grasses thrive here in North Central Florida because they withstand the summer heat and deal well with both soaking rains and dry spells. You likely have one of these:
How often should you mow? Grass in Gainesville grows almost year-round but grows fastest in the spring and summer months and even the fall. We recommend mowing once a week, in the mornings, during those seasons, and just once every two to three weeks during the winter months.
How often should you water? Give your lawn 1-1.5 inches of water twice a week, perhaps three times a week during dry times and just once, if at all, during rainy periods.
How often should you aerate? Lawn aeration breaks up compacted soil so the ground can soak up air, water, and nutrients like a sponge. The best time to aerate is during the fall.
What is the correct mowing height? St. Augustine and Bahiagrass should be mowed to around 2 inches, while Bermudagrass should be kept at 1 inch. Also, never cut more than a third of the grass height at each mowing.
