Have you ever rescued a lawn from certain death? How did you do it?
Yes, the lawn was infested and you could see rings, it was yellow in certain areas and it kept growing and growing and growing. I stayed up until 11:00pm that night and found the pesticide to put on the grass. It had to get rid of the chinch bugs but not kill the grass. I got the client's permission to come back every three days. I kept going and pulling samples out and treating it again. Now, the lawn is so green and beautiful. I received so many clients after that one yard.
What made you want to start a lawn care service?
My husband and I were tired of always depending on being employed through someone else. We came together and decided to start our own business so we could be more self sufficient and have stability.
How did you learn to take care of a lawn?
My father owned a construction and cleanup company. I was taught at a young age to do handyman work. I can also lay concrete, frame a house, sheetrock, roof, lay sod, maintain a lawn, clean up yards, but he made sure that all his daughters knew too.
What do you love most about being a lawn care provider?
The start and the finish. I’m very particular. I love projects that take a lot of work, but I always take my time to make sure that it's done right. It's hard to not want to hurry up and finish because I want to see the finished product.
What makes you a great lawn care provider?
I actually, genuinely care. I try to treat every lawn, customer, and client like someone that I care about.
What do you do outside of lawn care?
I’m a co-pastor of our church. I also have a 5013C where I help homeless women and kids.

With Texas being such a large state, the most common grass depends on your region. North Texas and the Panhandle experience cooler weather and may even get snow in the winter. On the other hand, the Rio Grande Valley is extremely hot, and West Texas has a desert climate. Lawns in Far West Texas may benefit from services such as Xeriscaping.
Here's a breakdown of the best grass types for each region in Texas:
Bermudagrass
St. Augustinegrass
Zoysiagrass
Seashore paspalum
Kentucky bluegrass
Tall fescue
Best time to mow
Avoid mowing midday when the weather in Texas is at its hottest. Mowing in the mid-morning or late afternoon when it's cooler is better for you and your lawn. Warm-season grasses must be mowed more frequently in summer, their peak growing season. Cool-season grasses will need more frequent mowing in spring and fall.
Watering schedule
Just like mowing, you want to avoid watering your lawn in the middle of the day. During this time, the hot Texas sun will evaporate the water before it can be adequately absorbed. Watering in the early morning is best for optimal results. Be aware of local watering regulations. Many Texas cities, such as Austin, have strict guidelines.
Aeration
In Texas, clay soil is prevalent and can become incredibly compact. When the soil in your lawn is compacted, your roots have less room to grow and limited access to nutrients. Aeration breaks up the soil, resulting in greener, thicker grass that can better absorb water.
Winter lawn care
In most of Texas, lawns have warm-season grasses, which go dormant in winter months. Even if your grass is dormant, it still needs care. Remove weeds to keep your lawn healthy, and rake any leaves that may provide a home for lawn pests. When your lawn is not actively growing, it is less resilient, so avoid harsher processes such as aeration and fertilization.
From El Paso to Houston, the diverse regions of Texas are all susceptible to a wide variety of lawn pests. Here’s a list of a few troublesome critters you may find in your Texas lawn:
