Lawn Love reviewing LawnStarter? Isn’t that a little like the pot calling the kettle green? Yes and no. As a LawnStarter competitor, we have gone to great lengths to present an honest look at LawnStarter’s services, prices, star ratings, reviews, and competitors.
That said, we believe Lawn Love is THE BEST WAY to book a trusted lawn care pro to mow your yard and keep your grass healthy and green. After all, we’re the only Better Business Bureau-accredited site of the three main players in the lawn care services space.

What is LawnStarter
Here’s the idea that sparked the birth of both LawnStarter and Lawn Love: You can have dinner dropped off at your door, order a car ride, or have groceries delivered with a few clicks on your phone or laptop. Why not lawn care?
LawnStarter was launched in 2013 by three college buddies who were originally inspired to help a friend with his small lawn care company. The site co-founders created a website and app to connect homeowners and property managers with nearby lawn care professionals.
Fast forward to today.
LawnStarter has grown from its Austin, Texas, roots to a platform with thousands of lawn care pros serving more than 120 metro areas nationwide.
LawnStarter also has expanded beyond lawn care to offer 20+ outdoor services including tree care, landscaping, pressure washing, fence installation and repair, gutter cleaning, and pool maintenance.
How LawnStarter works
Ordering services on LawnStarter is super simple (much as it is on Lawn Love):
- Sign up or sign on: If you’re a first-time user, go to the LawnStarter homepage or the mobile app and tap “get an instant price.” Enter your address, name, and phone number, and click “Get Your Quote.”
- Select your service(s): Select one or more services from the menu of lawn care and other outdoor services. You can also add any other details that you would like regarding your service.
- Get a free quote: Fill in your contact information and hit the “Request Quote” button.
- You will be matched with a pro (or pros):
For lawn care, you’ll be paired quickly with a mowing crew in your area based on your requested services and frequency (weekly, biweekly, or monthly for lawn care, for example).
For outdoor services, you’ll be matched with pros in your ZIP code who can do the requested job.
- Add your payment information: LawnStarter accepts only credit cards or debit cards.

LawnStarter lawn care prices
LawnStarter uses local real estate records to calculate the size of your property and then generates a price quote. If you like the quote, you book the service. It works very much like Lawn Love in that respect.
LawnStarter often offers a $19 mowing special for first-time customers. After that, mowing prices generally start at at least $29 per week, with the size of your lawn and height of your grass as the biggest factors determining your particular price.
Expect to pay between $29 and $65 for lawn care for a standard quarter-acre lot. That includes edging and blowing grass clippings off patios and walkways.
Note: Generally, LawnStarter’s lawn care pros don’t bag clippings. Request that your pro bag your grass clippings, but expect to pay slightly more.
Long Grass Fee: You’ll pay an additional charge, called a Long Grass Fee, for grass that is between 6 and 12 inches high. The Long Grass Fee can be 50% to 100% on top of the basic mowing price. If your grass is longer than 12 inches, the pro will give you a custom quote.
Prices for other outdoor services
LawnStarter offers 20-plus outdoor services. It’s nearly impossible here to quote an average price for each service because the prices vary somewhat depending upon the size of your home or property, the type of work you need done, the region in which you live, and other factors.
