Charlotte gardening services

Did you know that the city of Charlotte, NC was named after Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz? King George III decided to name this beautiful town after his wife, and it is a fitting name for a wonderfully diverse area. "Queen City," as the area is known to be called, led the country in gold production during the late 1700s and early 1800s.

Charlotte, NC is home to many popular attractions, such as the NASCAR Hall of Fame, the Billy Graham Museum, the Charlotte Hornets basketball team, the Carolina Panthers football team, and the Charlotte Checkers ice hockey team. The city is also home to the Charlotte Ballet, the Carowinds amusement park, and many golf communities. The city has a humid subtropical climate, making it an excellent place for homeowners that wish to settle in a warmer area.

The History of Charlotte, NC

The Charlotte area was first settled around 1755 by men and women of European descent. The actual first settlers of the area were Thomas Spratt and family. From there, Thomas Spratt's daughter married Thomas Polk, the granduncle of United States President James K. Polk. Within a few decades of the pair settling in the area and building their own home, the area became known as "Charlotte Town."

Surveyors began to mark the streets for future development in 1770. Local Charlotte leaders in 1775 signed the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence. While it is not a true declaration of independence, it is one of the first ones that led to our American Revolution.

The country's first gold rush was set off when a 12-year-old brought home a 17-pound rock to be used as a doorstop in 1799. A jeweler realized three years later that the rock was almost solid gold, setting off the famous gold rush. The United States Mint opened up the Charlotte Mint in 1835. North Carolina became the chief producer of gold throughout the country until 1848, when the Sierra Nevada find occurred. However, the Reed Gold Mine stayed in operation until 1912.

The city then began to see a boom in the industry when the Civil War ended, as a railroad hub and cotton processing center. The population of the city then grew larger after World War I. By the 19th-century churches began to pop up all over the city, giving the area another nickname, "The City of Churches." The denominations included Baptist, Roman Catholic, Presbyterian, Methodist, and Lutheran.

Charlotte was hit hard from Hurricane Hugo on September 22, 1989, causing massive property damage, power outages to most of the residents, and mass tree destruction. However, the city is now thriving and is home to many restaurants, parks, venues, clubs, sports teams, museums, and much more.

Grass Types Found in Charlotte, NC

Charlotte, NC sees about 218 days of sunshine per year, making it higher than the US average of 205 days. Therefore, proper lawn and garden care is a must. One of the best ways to maintain a beautiful outdoor landscape is to plant the right type of grass for the climate. There are a few grass species that are better for homeowners of Charlotte to plant.

Kentucky bluegrass- Kentucky bluegrass is a type of grass that can survive harsh, cold temperatures. It is also very durable and hearty. For homeowners with pets or children, it is a great grass to use because of its ability to bounce back from foot traffic quickly. This grass is also able to survive the heat of Charlotte summers. Homeowners should expect to mow at least one time per week when the summer months arrive.

Tall fescue- Tall fescue grows well in temperatures that average between 70 and 80 degrees. This grass can handle very extreme temperatures and drought and will not get a lot of weeds. When tall fescue is in full bloom, your yard will look very rich and healthy. This type of grass will need to be mowed every nine or ten days, a good alternative for homeowners who don't want to worry about weekly maintenance.

Bermuda grass- Another excellent low maintenance grass for Charlotte homeowners is known as Bermuda grass. This grass type is perfect for yards and areas that see full sunlight for hours at a time. It is also good for high traffic areas. Local stadiums, football fields, and businesses often plant Bermuda grass as it stands up to traffic.
