San Juan Capistrano lawn care
Which facts do you think of when you think about American history? When many people think about American history, they often think of Philadelphia, the Founding Fathers, and those original thirteen colonies. However, rich American history is found right here in the west. California and San Juan Capistrano are essential places for historical events that helped shape our region and nation as it is today. San Juan Capistrano boasts a unique natural history as well, one that has featured in scientific journals all around the world.
Early History of Capistrano
While American colonists in 1776 were signing the Declaration of Independence, Roman Catholic missionaries were establishing the San Juan Capistrano Mission in what would later become California. Both the Native American and Spanish cultures of the time continue to influence California culture today in music, architecture, and language. The practices of the early Spanish mission included the cultivation of grapes, and so the first winery to grace California began in our area.
A Culture We Honor
California has such a strong influence from Spanish and Mexican cultures that the language is seen and heard everywhere. Los Rios is the oldest neighborhood in the state, and residents appreciate the historic area they call home. From restoring the train depot to hosting fine Mexican dining at El Adobe, Los Rios, and San Juan Capistrano honor our heritage and enjoy our culture. Orange County and southern California continue to exert a significant influence over the rest of the United States. Our natural and cultural attractions attract visitors every year from around the globe.
Other than the vineyards and wineries, there is a natural phenomenon that brings many tourists to the region. This is the annual migration of the Capistrano swallows. These birds migrate every year from Argentina with such predictability that their Californian appearance can be expected on March 19th. The region has developed a well-recognized day for local celebration as the Swallows' Day Parade brings out celebrants. They march, play music, enjoy great food, and observe our unique spring celebration. Some residents may not realize that Goya, Argentina is the destination of the migrating cliff swallows in October. Goya is now the sister city of San Juan Capistrano.
