When you think of the famous city of Los Angeles, you probably think of celebrities, movies, and popular television series. However, there is much more to the city than fast cars and loud nightclubs. If you head out of downtown Los Angeles just 17 quick miles southeast, you will end up in a suburban city known as Norwalk.
History of Norwalk
The Shoshonean Native American tribe were the first settlers of Norwalk. In 1784, a Spanish soldier named Manuel Nieto was given a Spanish land grant that included the area of Norwalk. Portions of this land were subsequently subdivided after the Mexican-American War and offered to the public for sale. The Sproul Brothers of Oregon heard of this land development and bought 463 acres in 1869. By 1873, the brothers deeded 23 of these acres for a passenger stop on the Anaheim Branch Railroad. Many residents used the Norwalk Station to visit the "country" from all over the United States. Norwalk became the official name of the town in 1874.
Presently, Norwalk is mostly a residential area of the beautiful state of California. It is a great place to move to or to visit. The serene atmosphere and beautiful nature areas make this city one to remember. Norwalk became a city in 1957 and has an estimated population of 107,096 people as of the 2014 census. With such a vast population, the city enjoys a variety of events, attractions, parks, and more.
