Castle Rock lawn care services
Midway between Colorado Springs and Denver is a small city called Castle Rock. Famous for its cool weather, stunning landscapes, and sweeping acres of grasses, mesas, and nature walks, Castle Rock is a beautiful spot to explore and relax.
Home to the popular Douglas County School, people keep moving to Castle Rock to get a quality education for their children. The city also has parks and greenery on almost every corner. You will be pleased to see that almost every property owner in Castle Rock has some kind of lawn attached to their home.
People in Castle Rock tend to be very particular about their lawn care and maintenance. They want the best care to help them avoid unwanted weed growth, plant diseases, and insect infestations. If you simply ignore the need for maintenance, you and your lawn will suffer for it.
Various fungus problems can affect your lawn if proper care is not taken. Many of these are very common and are seen frequently in the lawns and gardens of Denver. The most prevalent fungal infections are:
Ascochyta Leaf Blight (Dollar Spot Fungus)
This is a stress fungus that can infest turfgrass cultivars all around the globe. It's often seen as the weather changes from cold and rainy to extremely hot. The fungus is usually active during the daytime as the temperature changes rapidly and is above 80 degrees Fahrenheit. It typically appears in grasses with short roots. These shallow and short roots are due to overwatering. Make sure you avoid this, or you'll have a problem on your hands.
Fusarium Blight (Necrotic Ring Spot)
This is a soil-borne lawn fungus, primarily identified by irregularly formed straw-colored patches of 4-15 inches in diameter. This disease is caused by excessive watering of grass over a long time. Necrotic spot is a popular grass fungus worldwide, but it's more common in places like Castle Rock or Denver, where most lawns have a sprinkler system. Over-irrigation is the root cause of this fungus for two important reasons. Firstly, excessive water activates its spores. Secondly, overwatering the grass destroys beneficial microbial growth in the soil, creating a phenomenon that we call "dead soils."
Vole
Okay, so this isn't a fungus, it's an animal. But you still need to know about it. The vole is between 4-8 inches long and can be found in different colors. They eat grass, veggies, and forbs. They are active all through the year and never hibernate, not even in winter. They can cause a lot of damage to the lawn grass, mostly during colder months. Many surface runways and underwater tunnels are dug by this creature, with multiple entrances. Ruts or paths may suddenly appear on the lawn in February and March. These crevasses can be wide, especially if the lawn has been covered by snow for a long period. Without action, a vole will soon tear apart your lawn.
Snow Mold
You will come across two types of snow mold in Castle Rock, pink and gray. These occur when the grass is covered by snow for a while. Snow mold grows at the top of the turf, between the grass and snow. It usually occurs after a prolonged snow period in the winter, when the snow hasn't fully melted for several weeks. Once the snow melts, you'll see a patchy or blotchy formation like webbing on the top of the grass. This is a snow mold that will die easily after being exposed to hotter temperatures and sunshine. Snow mold doesn't affect the turf; however, if it's left on top of the grass, it will prevent the sun from touching the grass blades. This will inhibit the development of chlorophyll and may turn the grass brown.
All the fungal diseases we've talked about can be treated with quality and efficient lawn care in Castle Rock. Many fungal lawn infections are associated with inappropriate maintenance, such as inadequate irrigation and over-mowing. If your lawn is affected by fungus, then an expert will make a plan with you to remove it. You will be happy to know that experts usually avoid using toxic chemicals, as this can cause extra damage.
