Port Saint Lucie is located at the picture-perfect heart of Florida's coast. It is a well-known tourist attraction, not only for its rivers and sandy beaches, but also its beautiful environmental preserves. Aside from all that, it's known for having a population of enthusiastic sustainable landscape homeowners and every neighborhood you'll visit in Port Saint Lucie is unique in its own way.
Of course there are always the homes that stand out for the wrong reasons - with brown, worn out yards, and overgrown lawns full of weeds. Unkempt yards can diminish the beauty of the outdoor space, depreciate the value of the property itself and those surrounding, so working with a Port St Lucie yard service is critical to every household in Florida. A Port St Lucie lawn service company will not only clean and maintain your existing outdoor space, but can also advise you on the best types of grass to grow in your lawn.
The following are some of the popular grass types in Port Saint Lucie.
Best grass varieties for Port Saint Lucie lawns
Bermuda grass is the most popular grass type found in the lawns of Port Saint Lucie. The grass occupies 59% of the total outdoor spaces of Port Saint Lucie households. This grass type owes its popularity to its tolerance to heat and drought conditions. Bermuda grass is also strong and resilient to wear and tear, making it ideal for compounds with heavy traffic.
Centipede grass is a beautiful, apple-green type of turfgrass that is commonly used in low maintenance compounds. It is a slow-growing species of grass and therefore requires little mowing. Less mowing means less money you will have to spend on Port St Lucie yard service companies. Centipede grass performs best in areas with up to six hours of direct sunlight. This type of grass is mostly used in areas with little foot traffic as it does not tolerate compaction very well.
Buffalo grass is a tough, low maintenance type of grass. It does very well in low moisture areas and only grows between 3 and 6 inches tall. The spreading stolons quickly fill the area for a dense turf that suffocates any struggling weeds. Unfortunately, Buffalo Grass doesn't do well in a cold climate and goes brown in winter but rejuvenates in spring.
This outstanding grass type can create a beautiful, dense lawn with minimal input from you. It is a warm-season grass that can withstand heat and drought conditions without a problem. Zoysia grass has improved cold tolerance, making it also to survive cooler temperatures. This versatile grass type can also withstand heavy foot traffic and is therefore perfect for households with large families.
Perennial Ryegrass is a fine-bladed grass type that has a fast germination and growth rate. This quality makes it an ideal choice for both temporary and permanent lawns. Another great quality of the Perennial Ryegrass is that it maintains its green color through winter.
Valued for its tolerance to a wide range of climatic conditions, tall fescue is suitable for homeowners with a wide variety of requirements. It grows most vigorously during cold months. Therefore, that's the time you will need Port St Lucie lawn service companies the most.
Scientifically known as the Poa pratensis, the Kentucky Bluegrass is the ideal lawn. When provided with optimum conditions and given proper maintenance, it produces a dense and beautiful lawn that any household can enjoy.
Given the proper conditions and care, all the above-mentioned grass types can create a lawn that neighbors admire. The following are basic tips on how to care for your lawn.
Tips on how to care for your Port Saint Lucie lawn
Remove weeds and thatch. Clover and chickweed are some common types of weeds you might notice cropping up in your lawn, but the dollar weed is the most common of all in Florida. Weeds will block nutrients from getting to the roots of your grass. Regularly remove weeds by hand or by using herbicides.
Weed removal can be time consuming, so it's recommended to hire a Port St Lucie weed control specialist to handle it for you. A specialist will have the proper tools and herbicides to remove and control weed growth, and can personalize the service to your lawn. Your Port St Lucie weed control and yard care company can also help you remove thatch and moss that may be blocking moisture and nutrients from getting to the soil.
Improve your soil drainage. Because of heavy rainfall in Port St Lucie, improper drainage is a critical problem for lawn health. Poor drainage may be caused by thatch, litter, and other debris blocking the waterway when it rains or when you turn on your sprinklers. Make it a habit to rake and dethatch your lawn now and then to remove any debris from your lawn. Port St Lucie yard clean up services will be offered by any lawn care company to handle this for you.
Yard topography may be a factor to consider when dealing with waterlogging in your yard and a Port Lucie lawn care company can also assist you with this. Your yard clean up expert will advise you if you need to take other measures to deal with waterlogging.
Mowing, edging, pruning and leaf removal. Frequent mowing and pruning are vital to the appearance of your yard and lawn. The frequency at which you mow and trim will depend on the type of grass and foliage you have in your yard. Faster growing plants and grass will require more frequent service.
Leaf cover and thatch prevent nutrients and water from getting into the soil, so it's important that you regularly work with a Port St Lucie leaf removal service to remove the leaf overlay and the dead layer of grass beneath the surface. Most lawn care companies also offer leaf removal services.
