Where did you grow up?
I was born in Idaho, so there's snow there right now. So that's why we like Seattle, because it's a lot warmer and you can work all year. It was a very small town where everybody knows everybody.
Have you ever rescued a lawn from certain death? How did you do it?
Overseeding. It is really a big deal here in Seattle because a lot of people don't water here in the summer and so there is damage. If you can get the lawn thick enough and cut it at a good height, it just grows in better and then it prevents weeds.
Advice for anyone interested in starting their own lawn care business?
Study your area and know the successful lawn guys in the area to get an idea of how they do it. If you can find some good contacts with people that can teach you, like suppliers and different people at nurseries, that would be great!
What made you want to start a lawn care service?
I took some schooling, so I did horticulture and some landscape design, and things like that. I like being outside nature.
What do you love most about being a lawn care provider?
I enjoy beautifying obstacles.
What makes you a great lawn care provider?
I take care of my customer's lawn as my own, that is the golden rule.
What's your best lawn care tip?
Don't be afraid to go the extra mile and just do a good job. Even sometimes if you think people won't be very nice, you can still, it'll return to you.
Have you won any awards or been mentioned somewhere online that you'd like to share?
I took master gardening classes and graduated as a master gardener.
Have you been mowing lawns your whole career?
20 plus years, I’ve always had the passion for lawn care.

Each grass type has different needs, and understanding them is necessary to keep your lawn in good shape. Lawn care isn’t just about mowing and watering. Here are a few tips to keep your lawn in shape:
Know how to mow: Mow your grass in mid-morning or early evening when it’s dry. Ensure mower blades are sharp, and avoid cutting dormant grass.
Fertilize: Grass clippings are good fertilizers, but most lawns need a nutrient boost. Apply a slow-release fertilizer in the spring and fall for cool-season grasses.
Dethatch annually: While some thatch is beneficial, we recommend dethatching your lawn one to two times per year. It reduces pest problems and increases water and nutrient absorption.
Conduct a soil test: Test your soil every year in early spring to determine its nutrient levels. All grass types require nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) for optimal growth. Use the N-P-K levels from your test results to choose the best fertilizer for your lawn.
