Blues, Beer, and BBQ
It's time for Cumberland's third annual Blues, Beer, and BBQ festival. The BBB started with two powerful women: Assistant Town Manager Christine Owen and Special Projects Coordinator Renee Garard. Owen and Garard wanted to create an event to bring out the town citizens and promote a sense of community. They come up with the idea to combine a summer concert with the creation of a pop-up event space. After much planning, the first BBB was held on June 3, 2017, and was a huge hit. So much so that they turned it into a summer concert series and held two more over July and August. The estimated crowd size at each of the events in 2017 was between 300 and 500 people. And it only got bigger and better in 2018. One of the coolest parts about the Cumberland BBBs is the accessibility. Most Blues venues are 21+, meaning that the Cumberland BBBs are one of the only spaces where families can enjoy the gift of the blues together.
Cumberland Trails
Cumberland has three existing trails for its residents to explore. There's the 21st Street Trail, the Cumberland Pennsy Trail, and the Buck Creek Trail. The 21st Street Trail is a multipurpose trail that runs between Buck Creek Road and the north side of 21st St. You'll also want to check out the Cumberland Pennsy Trail, a three-mile trail that runs along the abandoned Pennsylvania rail line. It's part of the National Road Heritage Trail, and there are plans to connect the Cumberland Pennsy Trail to existing sections of the trail in Indianapolis and Greenfield. Lastly, visit the Buck Creek Trail, a three-mile multi-purpose trail running from north to south along Buck Creek. It connects to Cumberland Pennsy Trail and connects most of Cumberland's neighborhoods, making it one of the most beautiful things about living in Cumberland, Indianapolis.
Lawn Love in Cumberland
With everyone spending more and more time outdoors, bad landscaping can become very apparent. You've noticed it before, when every house on the street has a beautifully landscaped lawn, and then you drive past one that is dead and brown. That terrible lawn always seems to look worse than it is because it's surrounded by such beautiful ones.
It's no surprise that the seasons can do real damage to your lawn. The winter freezes everything, and then it melts into mud, which the torrential rain of spring doesn't help. And then in the summer, the plants alternate between dying of thirst and heat and being drowned in the downpour. With all of this, getting your lawn to look presentable can seem like an impossible feat. The average person doesn't have the spare time to invest in working their lawn, and it's left dying and withering.
That's where Lawn Love exists.
