Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Detroit. I stay outside the city now, but growing up I always grew up in Detroit. It was Detroit, it was tough growing up. Yeah, it was tough growing up but I got a lot of experience like starting cutting grass was a lot of experience.

How do you beat the heat when working outside?
Waking up early. Before the sun gets out, I wake up early and try to get done early. The not getting done early, too close to being done early when the sun is starting to come up and you're not using all your energy just to get through the sun.

Have you ever rescued a lawn from certain death? How did you do it?
There was one yard that a lady had just moved, she had just moved into the property and the yard was real yellow. I want to say it was in the middle of June, and she didn't think it would come back. I just let her know that she had to put the fertilizer on there and she had to water it real well to get it back right. But she didn't think it was able to come back because it was so hot. Those hot days around August. And as she kept fertilizing and just regular fertilizer and water, it came back.

Advice for anyone interested in starting their own lawn care business?
Just consistency. Waking up early, getting out there early and making the most out of your day. If you want to be successful in it, you have to get up early and be consistent, answer the phone. Because customers always got questions. So just manually, just being consistent. That's how I became successful. Just being consistent, answering my phone and doing good work.

What successes have you achieved from working in this industry?
Yeah, I mean I build close relationships with customers outside of the country that are different investors outside the country that they actually transformed into different businesses that I have now all from grass. So, you know, I have a property company now, I have other companies that I manage their properties that they can't watch.

What made you want to start a lawn care service?
I actually have been doing lawn care since I've been 12 years old. So what made me start it was, I mean, I started my own business probably a couple of years ago because I had to stop my job and I just wanted to try to do things on my own. So that's what really made me start it because I had the experience and I've been doing this since I've been young.

How did you learn to take care of a lawn?
I was working just doing lawns on my block. Just doing the neighbors.

What do you love most about being a lawn care provider?
Just being free and able to make people happy.

What makes you a great lawn care provider?
Just knowing people, knowing what they want, knowing what they expect and just being able to do what they ask and need at the time for their yards.

Have you always had a passion for lawn care?
Yeah. Yeah, because I've been doing it since I was twelve years old. So over time I just get better and better. You know, I'm 26 now, so I've got a team that works with me. So over time it's not really hard because I enjoy doing it every day. I've been enjoying doing it, I never get tired of it. It's allowed me to do a lot of yards.

What's your best lawn care tip?
Keeping it watered and fertilized well and just maintaining the cuts every week and making sure whoever is cutting your yard is doing it the right way.

What do you usually do when you get home from a hot, long, work day?
I have a kid, so spend time with my kid, taking him out for dinner or something like that.

What keeps you going every single day?
Building my family and just my effort and stuff like that.

Have you won any awards or been mentioned somewhere online that you'd like to share?
No, it's just been private, really.

What was your favorite thing to do as a kid?
I worked. That's what I did. Yeah, I worked and played basketball so that was the two things I did, but for the most part I cut grass. I actually cut grass with my father growing up, so I started off working for $5 and in order to get a raise I had to learn each tool to get a raise.

Do you have a favorite memory from where you grew up?
I want to say working because that gave me a lot of character.

What are the words that you live by?
Keep pushing forward and never use an excuse. There's no such thing as an excuse.

Favorite cool treat?
Just mainly a Gatorade. I stop at the gas station about eight times a day so I'll have a freezie.
