Sagniaw lawn care

With a motto like "Grain and Train," it's apparent pretty quickly where Saginaw's roots lie. Today, Saginaw's economic landscape has mostly shifted towards business and commercial activities. However, it is a home-rule city of a relatively small size (just under 22,000) that is proud of its identity and its past.

The Meaning of a Name

Saginaw's name means "to flow out," which comes from the Ojibwe language. Saginaw also happens to share its name with a city, bay, and river in Michigan. The Texas Saginaw traces its origins back to 1833 when a man named Jarvis Green settled it. Green, originally from Michigan, decided to call his land, and ultimately the town, "Pontiac." However, the local post office denied his request. Instead, he chose the name "Saginaw."

Although the city's economy was traditionally based on grain production and farming, it quickly transitioned to a more industry-based economy with the arrival of the railroad. The railway, which was built in the mid-1800s, appointed Saginaw as the final stop on the Fort Smith line. Virtually from the first day of its completion, the railroad transformed the city's economy to focus more on heavy industry. Grain mills, storage facilities, and other commercial enterprises quickly sprang up along the railroad. What makes Saginaw unique is that unlike other Texas cities, it still has trace elements of its industrial days. Saginaw is home to Burrus Mills, which is the largest grain storage warehouse in the world. In addition to producing grain, the factory is famous for getting one of the most popular Western swing bands off the ground. The grain mill still runs, and it remains a vital part of the city's economy and identity. Another fun fact is that the railroad serving the town is also still in operation.

Attractions and Places to Explore in Saginaw

Today, Saginaw is one of the most rapidly growing areas in Texas. Its business-friendly environment offers a seamless collaboration between smaller companies and larger, more established corporations. This partnership ultimately enables the continued growth and stability of the city's economy. Along with natural attractions, that partnership means you'll find many modern places to visit in Saginaw, too.

Eagle Mountain Lake

One of the most popular outdoor attractions in Saginaw, and throughout North Texas for that matter, is Eagle Mountain Lake. This peaceful lake covers nearly 8,700 acres. It is a popular destination for swimming and recreational endeavors including water-skiing, fishing, and recreational boating. There are a variety of parks around the lake as well that provide additional opportunities for outdoor activities.

Lake Worth

Constructed in 1914, Lake Worth is one of the few man-made natural areas in the Saginaw area. The lake is both a reservoir and a recreational area, and it is also a popular outdoor attraction. The lake is open for public use, which includes swimming, boating, and fishing. As the Fort Worth area continues to expand, the lake remains one of the area's top destinations for a close, scenic escape from the fast pace of city life.

Texas Motor Speedway

In contrast to the peaceful nature of Saginaw's parks and lakes, the Texas Motor Speedway is the place to go if you want an action-packed, adrenaline-pumping evening. The speedway features world-class racing throughout the season along with other types of entertainment such as pre-show concerts. Periodically, the speedway is also host to championship events.

The Modern

Simply called "The Modern," this contemporary art museum offers an extensive collection of artwork in all mediums. From paintings to sculptures, its temporary and permanent displays paint a portrait of the Fort Worth area from the World War II era to the present. Guided tours are available to give visitors a more detailed overview of the museum's acclaimed collections and exhibits. There is also a shop that sells museum-themed goods and a cafe that provides hungry visitors with fresh food and refreshing drinks.

While many places have a separate past and present, Saginaw gracefully combines the two. This, combined with its small-town atmosphere and abundance of attractions, make Saginaw a unique place to visit. One of Saginaw's biggest draws is arguably its beautiful natural areas. Perhaps after a visit to Mountain Lake or Lake Worth, you are inspired to make your own property just as scenic. For assistance and advice, we encourage you to get in touch with Lawn Love. As your local lawn care experts, we'll get your lawn show-worthy in no time.
