Founded in 1886, Lakeside started as a purchase of 6,600 acres near Lindo Lake. The Cajon Valley Land Company purchased the land, and they immediately started promoting the town and developing it. The Lakeside Hotel was one of the first structures to be built on the property. In 1889, Lakeside was linked to the railway system. Lakeside is known as a cowboy town due to its rural location and abundance of ranches.
