Irondequoit lawn care services
The Town of Irondequoit was established in 1839; during the latter part of the 19th century, the northern part of town along Lake Ontario was developed as a vacation and tourist spot for Rochester residents. At the time, it was called the "Coney Island of Western New York". The Seabreeze Amusement Park first opened in August of 1879; in fact, according to the National Amusement Park Historical Association Seabreeze is the fourth-oldest amusement park in the U.S. And the twelfth-oldest in the world. However, Seabreeze began as what was called a "trolley park"; a trolley brought visitors through scenic landscapes to a picnic area at the end of the line. It wasn't until 1900 that rides were added to Seabreeze. The best-known ride at Seabreeze is the Jack Rabbit roller coaster; the Jack Rabbit, which opened in 1920, is the fourth-oldest continuously operating roller coaster in the world.
After World War II, the town grew quickly with returning veterans in search of housing. In 1940, the population was 23,376, but by 1960 it doubled to 55,337. However, in recent decades, the population has declined somewhat; in 2017, the population of Irondequoit stood at 50,376.
In 1965, the town of Irondequoit earned a place in U.S. civil rights history by instituting one of the first voluntary desegregation programs. The Urban Suburban Inter-District Transfer Program began with twenty-five first graders from inner-city Rochester. In 1977, fifteen of the original twenty-five students successfully completed high school and graduated together. This achievement was celebrated on the U.S. Congressional Record and in a letter from the White House. The desegregation program continues to expand and benefit students from both Rochester and Irondequoit.
