Perhaps the most well-known site in Euless is the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, which has brought jobs and residents to the city virtually on the day it opened. Euless is part of the Dallas/Fort Worth metro area. It is an established city with a population of more than 51,000 residents. The city is proud of its diversity and the fact that a number of minority populations call it home. Once dependent on crops, particularly cotton, for a source of economic income, Euless now has a predominantly business-oriented economy, including the airport.
Euless From Past to Present
Euless began in 1867. The first resident (and founder) was a Tennessee native named Elisha Euless. Upon his arrival, Euless purchased over 170 acres of land on what is now Main Street. Euless primarily grew cotton as his dominant cash crop. That led to the establishment of a cotton gin on his property. As time passed and more people settled in the area, he built a community center on his property, too. Since the town emerged around the area that he inhabited, fellow settlers voted to name the city "Euless" in his honor.
Between 1960 and 1970, Euless's population size grew tremendously by nearly 15,000 residents. It has had a steady growth in population since then due to its stable economy and its designation as one of the best places in Texas to live. The city has diversified as it has expanded, and now it is home to many minority populations, namely a Tongan community and a Nepalese community. Because of the large number of Nepalese migrants, the city now includes a number of festivals celebrating important Nepalese national and cultural holidays.
Visiting Euless
Today, Euless has a number of attractions. Many are devoted to its natural landscapes and aviation, which is fitting considering its past.
CR Smith Museum
This museum brings the history and significance of the aviation industry to the public's eye. The CR Smith Museum stands out for the fact that it has a more vintage vibe than many contemporary aviation and aeronautical museums. The CR Smith museum showcases the history of air travel in the US. It also focuses primarily on American Airlines. Along with the entertaining interactive exhibits, the museum houses a carefully restored Douglas DC-3 aircraft that dates back to 1940.
Heritage Park
For anyone who wants to get a taste of Euless's history, enjoy its scenic preserved spaces, or do both, a visit to Heritage Park should be added to the list of attractions. The park, which is devoted to historic preservation, contains several buildings of historical significance to Euless. This includes the Himes Log Cabin, which is one of the oldest known structures in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, the Fuller House, which is the city's first brick house, and the McCormick Barn, which is a wooden structure made of lumber sourced from a nearby camp. For those wanting even more history, the Euless Heritage Museum is located right next to the park. The museum is open to the public and offers guided tours during select Saturdays each month. The park, which spans four acres, also includes a pet park, grills, a playground, and a walking trail.
Midway Park
Midway Park is another popular attraction in Euless. It is a dual indoor-outdoor recreation area featuring a large central recreation area with an indoor pool. During the warmer months of the year, the park's outdoor water park opens for seasonal enjoyment. There are a number of picnic areas in the park along with baseball and softball fields. The park covers 22 acres and has bike racks available for those wishing to bike to the park. Midway Park is pet-friendly with two pet areas.
