Atascocita is a greatly populated, affluent area located northeast of Houston, bordering the west side of Lake Houston. In the 1960s, the city of Houston annexed portions of what would later become Atascocita, but then it was de-annexed a decade later. Modeled after Thomas Jefferson's iconic Monticello estate, Atascocita High School property is valued at $46.9 million. In 2010, the Texas State Board of Education recognized Atascocita High School for its quality of education and success rates.
