Spring, Texas History
The land that Spring, Texas sits on was initially populated primarily by the Orcoquiza Native Americans. European settlers started to arrive in the 1830s, and by 1840 the new town of Spring had 153 people living here. More people began making Spring home after the Civil War, and by 1871, the building of the International and Great Northern Railroad had begun.
The railway was completed after the turn of the century, and the population started to increase quickly. In 1947 post-World War II, Spring claimed 700 residents. In the 1980s with Houston's expansion into Spring as a suburb, the population blossomed into the thousands.
Old Town Spring Reclamation and Tourism Spot
Fortunately, there was a reclamation effort spearheaded by Spring residents in the 1980s to restore what is now called Old Town Spring. The Old Town Spring shopping area had many of the older houses and stores renovated. By 1989, Old Town Spring became popular with tourists and shoppers, and by 1990, Spring's population had grown to over 30,000 people.
Spring Texas Favorite Restaurants
Spring, Texas has a lot to brag about when it comes to our restaurants. If you want to try something truly unique, be sure to check out Ate Cafe, located in the inSPIRE Rock rock climbing gym in Spring. This restaurant is a one-of-a-kind place and was listed by the National Geographic as one of the Top 10 Burger places in the United States. It offers gourmet burgers, pizza, smoothies, salads, and a coffee bar. How 's it so different? You can watch the action of people on indoor climbing walls. It bills itself as a "gem within a gym."

It was a boon to the local economy when ExxonMobil built a major corporate campus right in Spring. The campus today's boasts of having over nine thousand employees working locally. People here in Texas are serious about providing the highest-quality education for the local young people, as well.
With the rapid expansion of population, Spring has worked hard at redefining the school district. There's Carl Wunsche Sr High School in Spring, but part of Spring will soon be sending children to Dekaney High School, beginning in the 2020-2021 school year. Bailey, Dueitt, and Twin Creeks are the three local middle schools, and there are numerous elementary schools. Because of Spring's expansion, some residents send their students to Klein Independent School, like Klein Oak, Klein High, and Klein Collins High School. The area boasts of several excellent private schools, as well.
Besides fine shopping, dining and education, the city of Spring also has an abundance of attractive local parks. One of the most popular parks with the children is undoubtedly SplashTown Houston water park. For the green thumbs among us, you should be sure to visit Mercer Arboretum and Botanic Gardens. You'll find acres upon acres of beautiful flowers, shrubs, and trees. Plenty to give you inspiration that will last.
