Just sixteen miles north of Seattle, among mountains and rivers is Lynnwood, Washington, and if you're lucky enough to call this place home, you know just how special it is. And when the weather grows warmer, and the flowers are about to bloom, Lynwood is one of the most beautiful places in Washington.
Living Up Lynnwood
What do you most look forward to with the departure of winter? Maybe you're looking forward to long hikes undeterred by the cold, where you can get some solitude and reconnect with nature. Perhaps you can't wait for all the exciting dates you'll be able to have with your partner in the warmer weather. Or maybe your kids are getting more and more restless by the day, and you can't wait for some activities for long summer days. Luckily, whatever your style, Lynnwood has a little something for everyone.
Bird Watching
One of the most beautiful parts of spring is the return of the birds to the sky. Lynnwood has a wealth of natural habitats for shorebirds, neotropical migrants, and more birds on the Pacific Flyway, as well as several sites that are premier for bird watching. Edmonds Marsh is open year round and is comprised of freshwater wetlands and saltwater marsh. You can see over 200 species at Edmonds Marsh. Kayak Point County Park is an excellent spot for families and beginners, with both a forest and a marine area open all year. You can see Pileated Woodpeckers, Common Loons, Bald Eagles, and more.
Orienteering
Orienteering is a fun activity for all ages - it's a form of land navigation that can be done competitively, as a group, or as an individual sport. The objective is to locate control points by using your compass and map to navigate through the woods. It works to hone your navigation skills while giving you an excellent tour of the woods as you move from point to point. There are two sites for permanent orienteering courses in Lynnwood. North Lynnwood Park is one of the best orienteering courses for beginners. There are seven controls placed throughout the 6.32-acre park. You'll also want to check out Lynndale Park, where there is a 22-acre native forest with three courses: Easy, Intermediate 1 and Intermediate 2. There are 25 control points in the park, so you can go in order, or design your own course.
Water Sports
One of the greatest parts of living in Washington is the water sports, and Lynnwood is no different. You'll definitely want to go scuba diving at the famous underwater park at Edmonds Beach. The park has over 27 acres of tide and bottomlands, half of which have been developed with trails and features for divers. You don't want to miss river rafting, either, on the four major river systems available to Snohomish County. There are plenty of great local rafting companies on the Skykomish, Snohomish, Sauk, and Stillaguamish. Whether you're looking for rough, white waters or a calm rafting trip, there is the perfect trip for everyone. You can also rent kayaks and go exploring on your own, or have a guided tour. You can access the Ebey Island estuary wetlands reserves and the wildlife who call it their home. And of course, there is plenty of fishing to do in Lynnwood. You can cast off at Olympic Beach and Fishing Pear, at the intersection of Railroad Avenue and Dayton Street in Edmonds. Or go to Lake Stevens, the largest lake in the county with 8 miles of shoreline, public beaches, and public boat launches. There are plenty of other lakes in the area that offer fantastic fishing experiences as well. Look at what is around you, and go explore!
